Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is the fastest growing sport in the World. Combining the striking styles of Thai Boxing and Western Boxing, with the takedowns and clinch work of Greco Roman and Wrestling and the ground work of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. This makes for a well rounded martial art that works for all ranges.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is the relatively new fighting sport invented by the Gracie's in Brazil that took the world by storm. The Gracie's showed how effective Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is at no holds barred fighting events, such as UFC and Pride, where fighters of all styles were pitted against each other. The Gracie's showed that through their superior ground fighting skills, they could take down and defeat much bigger and stronger opponents.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is now widely used as the basis for all MMA ground work.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is a very technical fighting style, but also has a strong emphasis on sparring to pressure test all techniques you learn.

For first training session at Fightworx Academy.  Come to class wearing comfortable sports clothing (no zips or buttons).  Following your first introductory session, you are offered a variety of flexible price plans and payment methods to suit your needs.  Specialist equipment is needed for some classes which can be purchased at very reasonable prices from Fightworx Academy.  Speak to your instructor for more information.  

Fightworx Academy operates a policy of protocol.  Members are expected to behave in a way that will not intimidate, disrupt or offend other members.  Please refrain from swearing or using offensive terms which may upset other members- no racist, sexual or personal comments.  Members who fail to adhere may have their membership terminated.

Due to the nature of combat sport which involves a lot of close contact work, it is politely requested that members maintain a high level of personal hygiene.  Please make sure your training kit is clean and that you shower before class.  Nails must be kept trimmed short to avoid injury.  Long hair must be tied back.  All jewellery must be removed.  If piercings cannot be removed they must be taped over.
